The Mangueira Apartment, situated in Brasília at SQN 411 Bloco Q, spans an area of 84m². Coarquitetos undertook the renovation project for this apartment in 2022, aiming to revamp its interiors and create a more functional and spacious living environment.

Project Overview

Originally featuring three bedrooms, including a suite with a dressing room and bathroom from a previous renovation, the client sought a transformation to integrate the kitchen and one bedroom into the living room. The objective was to enhance the sense of openness and illumination within the apartment. A key decision-making process involved whether to retain the suite or opt for a single bathroom, considering the client’s living situation and future property valuation. Ultimately, the decision was made to propose a single large and functional bathroom, maintaining flexibility for potential future occupants.

Design Concept

The bathroom was strategically positioned as an island within the apartment, serving as a central feature. It is designed to allow independent use of the sink, toilet, and shower, ensuring versatility and functionality. Surrounding the bathroom are various living spaces, including the living room, kitchen, and office, with curtains providing privacy when needed. The integration of surrounding rooms facilitates a circular flow within the social area of the apartment.

Material Selection

In keeping with the modernist architectural heritage of Brasília, the apartment incorporates simple and discreet materials. Andorinha granite countertops, white tiled walls, and freijó wood joinery contribute to a clean and contemporary aesthetic. Terracotta tiles adorn the walls and floors of the central island, paying homage to Brasília’s modernist architecture. This material choice draws inspiration from iconic structures such as Cine Brasília and the “tesourinhas do eixão.” Additionally, exposed cobogós add character to the space, creating a unique and expansive terraced area.
