Exploring the Green House Floriade

The Green House Floriade, designed by V8 Architects, stands as a prominent exhibition greenhouse at the Floriade 2022 in Almere, the Netherlands. Serving as a temporary icon of the horticultural sector, this expansive structure showcases its unique function through its striking silhouette and innovative design.

Architectural Concept

Constructed entirely from standard greenhouse elements, the Green House Floriade features a significantly raised central axis, offering visitors an immersive experience. With a length of 170 meters, this elevated strip serves as a promenade, providing panoramic views of the exhibition floors and emphasizing the scale of greenhouse horticulture complexes.

Sustainable Design

The exhibition greenhouse is built using reusable standard elements of the Venlo greenhouse type, ensuring its repurposing after the Floriade. A diverse range of materials, including transparent, translucent, textured, and whitewashed glass, creates a captivating interplay of light and shadow within the structure, enhancing the overall experience for visitors.

Exhibition Zones

Along the promenade, visitors encounter various exhibition zones showcasing the Dutch horticultural sector. At the end of the route lies a greenhouse restaurant, offering a culinary experience amidst the lush greenery. Additionally, a section of the greenhouse is dedicated to the High Tech Green House, demonstrating advanced horticultural practices for professional visitors.

Terraced Design

The terrain surrounding the greenhouse features a substantial height difference, which has been integrated into the design to create four large terraces within the interior space. These terraces serve as natural zones for different exhibitions, allowing for the placement of flowers, plants, and trees directly into the ground, enhancing the connection with nature.

Conclusion

The Green House Floriade stands as a testament to innovative design and sustainable architecture, offering visitors a glimpse into the future of horticulture while celebrating the rich heritage of Dutch agriculture. With its striking silhouette, immersive exhibitions, and sustainable principles, this iconic structure leaves a lasting impression on visitors at the World Horticulture Exhibition.
