Mari Beach Club, crafted by IBUKU, stands as a testament to sustainable hospitality architecture in Kecamatan Kuta Utara, Indonesia. With a sprawling area of 3578 square meters, the design reflects the client’s vision for monumental architecture that harmonizes seamlessly with the natural landscape. Key themes of the design include eclecticism, exoticism, and elegance, capturing the essence of Bali’s allure as a global tourism destination.

Integration with Landscape

Upon entrance, visitors are greeted by a monumental dome structure that gracefully slopes down into the surrounding landscape. The design highlights a seamless flow between the built environment and the natural elements, with a river-like pool meandering through the site and eventually merging with the sea. This integration with the landscape not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also promotes sustainable design principles.

Adaptive Design Process

Throughout the design process, there were various adaptations to accommodate changes in management and client requirements. Transitioning from Pak Khalid & Bu Justina to Bu Syara Daly, the design evolved to meet the evolving needs of the project. Direct input from the clients ensured that the final design aligned with their vision while maintaining a balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Historical Context

The site’s location, nestled along a pristine beachfront with approximately 60 meters of beachfront access and a total length of 106 meters, adds to its historical significance. During construction, it was discovered that the site once served as a mass graveyard, particularly around the Main Bar basement area. This historical context adds depth to the project and underscores the importance of respectful design practices.

Collaborative Efforts

The success of Mari Beach Club is attributed to a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders, including interior designers from Studio Jencquel, MEP consultants from Eco Mantra, landscape designers from Bukit Kembar Permai, lighting designers from Digital Native, and structural engineering expertise from Ketut Yasa Bagiarta. Together, they contributed to the realization of a sustainable and visually stunning hospitality destination that celebrates Bali’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
